DALE – No. 3 in Class A Dale never got the spark they needed and suffered an 8-3 loss to No. 2 Oktaha as a result Tuesday.

David Herring drove in Drew Reed and Ike Shirey on a single in the bottom of the second and Reed singled to bring home Gant Hathcock in the third, but Dale couldn't get anything else going.

Oktaha took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a single and a two-run double and added two insurance runs in the third and fifth and one more in the sixth. Matt Erwin had a solo shot in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead.

Hathcock was 3-3 with two doubles and Herring, Reed and Bryce Crawford each had two hits.

Crawford pitched five innings, struck out three, walked three and gave up seven runs on as many hits to be handed the pitching loss. Reed relieved him to start the sixth and gave up one run on three hits.

Zack Irvin pitched the complete game for Oktaha and struck out five.

Dale (15-4) will challenge New Lima Thursday at 4:30.
