Jacqueline Squirrel Mapes of Miami, Okla., passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her home. She was 73.
Jacqueline was born February 2, 1944 in Miami, Okla. to Alexander and Birdie (Morgan) Squirrel. She graduated from Miami High School Class of 1962. She moved to Denver, Colo. where she attended Cosmetology School . Jacqueline married Richard Mapes on October 27, 1965 and the couple moved to Michigan where they lived for several years before she returned to Miami in 1994. She loved to paint with water colors and draw, working in her yard, dinner with friends and neighbors and especially enjoyed spending time with children. She was a grandmother and an "Auntie" to everyone's children. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation and the Catholic Church.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents and her twin daughters Kristine Mapes in 1969 and Kathleen Mapes in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Reinhardt and husband Rich of Auburn, Mich. and Mary Kunz of Auburn, Mich. Four sisters Martha Fansler of Welch, Okla., Doris Williams and her husband Don of Bluejacket, Okla., Delores Valdez and her husband Mike of Denver, Colo. and Elaine Martin of Miami, Okla., five grandchildren, Jacob Mapes and his wife Stephanie, Emily Reinhardt, Joshua Reinhardt, Justin Kunz and Elizabeth Reinhardt and her forever friend, Richard Mapes of Auburn, Mich.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami. Interment will follow in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla. Pallbearers will be Jacob Mapes, Joshua Reinhardt, Justin Kunz, Rich Reinhardt, Bill Fansler and John Fansler. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
