R.C. Allen Adkins, Jr.

R.C. Allen Adkins, Jr. passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Okla. He was 49 years old.

"Junior" as he was known by many, was born August 9, 1963 in Ponca City, Okla., the son of R.C. and Francis Louise (Manos) Adkins, Sr.

He attended Bellringer School in Bartlesville where his mom worked. She brought him every day. Staff at the school remembered him to be lovable, energetic and always bouncing up and down. He was a Boy Scout, and was able to attend the Philmont camporee one year.

In the early 1980’s, he entered ARC Group Homes, where he lived with some other housemates.

R.C., as he preferred to be called as an adult, absolutely loved to go to work. He was very fastidious as a worker. He worked at Green Country Village and cleaned the public spaces. The residents there were extremely kind to him as was the entire management staff. He enjoyed seeing the residents daily. RC was punctual and had a great sense of humor.

He went on vacations with his ARC friends and associates. He traveled to Dallas and Kansas City, and went on cruises to Cozumel and Key West. He also enjoyed a Branson trip or two, going to shows and shopping and eating out.

R.C. was generous to his friends and housemates. He enjoyed making purchases that everyone could enjoy such as a large television for the living room.

One of the favorite habits that RC had was to purchase his Star and National Enquirer magazine and read cover to cover each week. He would laugh at some of the stories, understanding that they were far-fetched. He carried a pencil at all times. He had it between his fingers all day long. It was part of his "signature look," never sharpened, just to carry.

Surviving include a brother, John Dustin "Dusty" Adkins; two Aunts: Onie Gregg and Mary Jordon; two uncles, Billy Adkins and Glen Adkins; and a legacy of many friends and acquaintances who were positively touched by his life.

R.C. was preceded in death by his parents, R.C., Sr. and Francis Adkins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at 2 p.m. at McCartney’s Johnson Funeral Home in Pawhuska. Rev. Chris Morton will officiate. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

McCartney’s Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
