SCHOOL NEWS

(Submitted by Superintendent Dixie Hurd)

I would like to invite everyone to join us at the capitol on Monday, March 31, to just voice our ideas to our legislators. We can make a difference if we let them know what we want. They are there to represent us and if we don’t tell them our ideas, they won’t know how to vote for us. I encourage you to email, call, or visit and talk to our representatives. They always say they welcome our input!

Students should be bringing home report cards by Wednesday, March 26. Be looking for them. If you need a spare copy, please call the office. The Junior High girls’ slow pitch softball team is working through their schedule. The next game is on Friday, March 28, at Prue at 4:30 p.m.. Schedules are available in the office.

Monday, March 31, is a snow day. This is also the day that parents, teachers, and students are invited to rally at the capitol to show support for funding education. This would be a great opportunity for children to see how our legislature works!

VETERANS REPRESENTATIVE

AT TOWN HALL

Just a reminder that Lee Webb, is still coming to the Town Hall on Fridays from 11:30 until 12:30 to help Veterans with their benefits. This is a great opportunity for veterans and should be utilized by all that are qualified. Veterans are reminded that they can use their tax exempt card from the state to exempt taxes on their phone bills. Just contact your telephone provider for more details. The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs representative will not be coming to Osage County anymore, but Lee Webb will be still doing the Veterans Assistance for this area. Every Friday Lee will be at the Pawhuska Community Center - 9 a.m - 11 a.m., Wynona 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Hominy from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and any other towns that need assistance can come to one of these towns to meet with Lee. Remember that the VA Healthcare meets all the requirements for Obamacare, so anyone who does not have their VA Healthcare should come and talk to Lee. Lee wanted to remind everyone that he will also be at Cleveland at the City Hall from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, as well.

WYNONA BOARD

OF TRUSTEES MEET

The Wynona Board of Trusteee met for the March meeting on Tuesday, March 18, in the Wynona Town Hall. The Board conducted the regular business, then approved the hiring of Stephen (Gibby) Gibson as the new utility worker and dog catcher. They also did a finding of no significant impact for the waterline grant in progress and authorized the Mayor to sign all paperwork on the grant. There was much discussion about lots that need cleaned up in Wynona and the problem with dogs running at large and being destructive. The Board will set a time at the April meeting for the Spring cleanup. This is done every year before Founders Day to allow Wynonans to clean up their properties before Founders Day. Attending the meeting were; Goober Robinson, Della Carter, Nancy Deatherage, Johnnie Lott, Donna Swanner, Gibby Gibson, Harley Towell, Chance Crawford, Janet Delaney and Tennie Slone.
