WYNONA SCHOOL NOTES

Submitted by Superintendent Dixie Hurd

We have a group of students who are trying to raise money to make a special trip to Washington D.C. next summer. Shelly Shulanberger and Shelly Ervin are the teachers who are making this possible. This is not a school sponsored event, but it is a wonderful opportunity for students to get to see our nation’s capitol. These students, will hopefully, be fully funded through the fund raisers that they are working on so diligently. They are currently selling Blue and Gold sausage, chicken and bacon at this time. Please contact the school for more information.

We have several students who will be honored soon for the work they have done in learning their math facts! We will have monthly awards assemblies to honor these students. Our first assembly will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 2:45 p.m. Parents are invited to attend! Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, October 8, at 5:30 p.m. and we encourage all parents to join us! We are very appreciative our community and its citizens!

Congratulations to our Jr. High girls’ softball team. They had a great season and made us feel proud. The new field made us look good. Thanks to everyone who participated. We appreciate the families and the community for coming to our games to show their support. We appreciate our community for donating to the signs to help support our teams. We appreciate Steven and Jennesse Holt for coaching our team to victories.

Parents and students, please remember that students should not be on school grounds before 8:10 a.m. Students are not supervised until 8:10 and safety is the chief concern. Also, please be sure that the teachers are well informed as to where you child should go in the evenings. In the lower grades, a note would be very helpful if plans are different than usual. Only students who live at least 1 1/2 miles from the school should ride the bus. Please don’t send a note for kids to ride the bus if they do not normally ride it.

Parent conferences went great! If you missed getting to talk to your child’s teacher, please consider a phone conference, at least! We appreciate everyone for making the efforts to help our students be the best that they can be.

Our Parent Teacher Organization is very pleased with the success of the popcorn sales. We made over $1,700 to use for our teachers and students. The t-shirts orders are due Oct. 2. The next PTO meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 5:30 p.m.. Everyone is invited to join us! Our first awards assembly will be Friday, Octo. 4, at 2:30 p.m.

There is no school on Friday, Oct. 11, and Fall Break is Oct. 14 - 18. The first nine weeks will end on Oct. 10 and report cards will go home with students on Oct. 23. If you do not see your child’s report card at that time, please call the office for a copy. Happy Fall!

HELP OUT ESCAPE MINISTRIES

The E.S.C.A.P.E. Ministries are the people who donate all the good food for the Wynona residents and they are sponsoring their 7th annual Live and Silent Auction. It is a free chili dog dinner with all the fixin’s in exchange for canned foods. It will be held on Monday, October 7th from 6-9 p.m. at the Cleveland Community Center (Next to the Library). The auction promises something for everyone. Let’s show our appreciation to this wonderful group for all the help they have given to the Town of Wynona.
