The Osage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal stabbing at a residence east of Barnsdall during the predawn hours of Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, and responded to the scene of an altercation that left one man dead and another with wounds consistent with having fought for a knife, Sheriff Eddie Virden said.

The investigation is ongoing and the results will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review and a decision about any possible criminal charges.

Virden said a homeowner told deputies that a guest at his residence attacked him with a knife. The homeowner said that a struggle ensued and he took the knife away from the attacker and threw both the guest and the knife out the door, Virden said.

According to the homeowner, the ejected guest then picked up the knife and, instead of leaving, attacked the homeowner again, Virden said. The incident concluded with the attacker dead, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately identify any of the persons involved in the fatal incident, pending notification of the next-of-kin of the deceased.
