The cause of two-vehicle accident Feb. 7 that claimed the life of an 82-year-old Claremore woman is still under investigation.


According to information from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, dead is 82-year-old Lou Anna Nichols.


The accident happened around 7:39 a.m. Feb. 7 on State Highway 20 at County Road NS 4120, which is approximately 1 mile west of Claremore in Rogers County.


At that time, a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Nichols, was southbound on NS 4120 Road, while a 2006 Toyota Highlander, driven by 38-year-old Somer Moody, also of Claremore, was westbound on Highway 20.


Troopers said Nichols “failed to yield from stop sign” and was struck in the driver side by the Highlander.


Nichols “expired at scene from massive injuries,” and Moody was transported by Pafford EMS with arm and leg injuries to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa where she was treated and released. One passenger in her vehicle, a 13-year-old Claremore boy was also transported by Pafford EMS to St John’s where he was treated and released for leg injuries.


Troopers listed Nichols condition at the time of the incident as well as the case of the collision as “under investigation.”
