I wanted to let the Bartlesville High School volleyball team know how much I enjoyed watching them compete throughout this season.
Even though they didn’t carve out the kind of record or success they would have preferred, they still brought fight and effort to every outing.
This is a reflection of their coach Tom Williams and the seniors.
I believe that — barring injury — the program will turn it around next season.
But, this year’s crew has plenty about which to be proud — through adversity it kept on swinging.
Blast from the past
Following is an excerpt of an E-E article from 2003.
Lindsay Craig turned Sweet 16 for the Wichita State University softball team this past spring.
The Bartlesville High grad (Class of 2001) boasted a 16-7 win-loss record in 2003 while leading Wichita to a gaudy 39-20 mark.
Craig, a true sophomore for the Shockers, helped the team do a complete-360 from the previous season when it finished at 20-34.
She’s back in Bartlesville for a while, getting ready to return to college and watching her sister Lacee play for the Chevy City Blazers.
The two sisters have created a mini-Craig dynasty in the pitching circle for the Blazers.
Craig pitched several years for the 18-and-under summer program finishing up her Blazer career in 2002.
Lacee is an incoming Bartlesville High junior who still has at least a couple of summers, or so, to play for the Blazers.
Meanwhile, Lindsey will be finishing her college career at Wichita, where she has declared as a criminal justice major.
No doubt Lindsey also will be putting the handcuffs on many opposing batters as her coach, Tony Walton, may be tempted to say, “Book ‘em Craig.”
