SCHOOL NEWS

(Submitted by Superintendent Shelley Shulanberger)

Gosh! What a busy first week back.

Report cards were sent home today, if you did not receive your child’s, please contact the office.

I have noticed we have a lot of students arriving at school without a coat or in shorts. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather in order to prevent a schoolwide sickness. This is a very important time in their lives and they need to be at school as much as possible to receive the best education.

The elementary have been participating in a basketball tournament all week in Bowring. They have been playing their hearts out! The girls had a nail biting game on Wednesday evening, they lost by 1 point. I am proud of the elementary boys and girls team for playing so hard, their games have been late in the evenings, but they still worked hard both in the classroom and on the court. They will compete in a tournament the week of Jan. 9-13 at Osage Hills. The schedule will be announced.

The junior high basketball team had the week off. They are well-rested and were prepared for the home game against Copan on Jan. 9.

High school basketball teams have had a busy week too. They had a very intense home game against South Coffeyville on Tuesday. Even though they didn’t win, they tried their best and had great attitudes. I am super proud of the high school players. This was also the night we acknowledged are eight senior athletes and their families. They have been competing in a tournament in Medford this week.

Tuesday, Jan. 10, the boys teams competed against Billings at home beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, they will travel to South Coffeyville for a game beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 11, the high school will be educated about HIV by the Osage County Health Department at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., the 7-12th graders will be attending a puberty class at 2 p.m. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday for attendance to both classes.

Both basketball and cheerleaders will begin selling Yankee Candles on Thursday, Jan. 12.

Friday, Jan. 13, will be the December monthly assembly beginning at 2:45 p.m. The cheerleaders will send off the high school basketball team with a pep assembly.

There will be no school on Monday, Jan. 16. The teachers will be attending a professional development seminar in Hominy at the Osage County Interlocal Cooperative.

The 2017 Basketball Homecoming Royalty will include freshman attendants Jasmine Holland and Dylan Rykard, sophomore attendant Clara Hough escorted by senior Jason Richmond, junior attendant Hailey Towell and escort James Kanke, and senior attendant Randi Dryden with escort David King.
