A Pawhuska man died and two other Osage County residents were seriously injured when their pickup collided with a semi tractor-trailer rig in southern Pawnee County early Thursday.
Andrew Thomas, 24, of Pawhuska was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:45 a.m. crash, which occurred on State Highway 18, slightly north of the Cimarron Turnpike, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Thomas and 35-year-old Mark Cohat of Barnsdall were passengers in a Ford F-350 truck driven by 52-year-old Gary Thomas, also of Barnsdall.
OHP reports indicated the pickup was southbound on SH 18 when it struck a tractor-trailer rig operated by New Mexico truck driver Alan Young, 64. The northbound semi unit was turning left onto a convenience store parking lot when the collision occurred, the report said.
The truck passengers were pinned in the wreckage for approximately one hour, according to the report. Both Barnsdall men were air-lifted from the crash scene to Tulsa’s St. John Medical Center, the OHP added.
Reportedly, the driver of the semi was not injured. Troopers said Young had been wearing a seat belt. Investigation of the mishap is continuing, the OHP said.
