To honor my Daddy and for all other great Dads, I am sharing my Dad’s all time favorite chocolate cake.

I ran this recipe several years ago but on the chance you may have lost it, never seen it, wanted to make it, forgot how much you loved it, here it is AGAIN!


1/2 cup butter

2 cups sugar

4 squares of Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate

2 eggs

1 and 1/2 cups whole milk

2 cups cake flour

2 tsp. vanilla

2 tsp. baking powder

a pinch of salt

2 cups chopped pecans

* Cream sugar and butter. Melt chocolate. Beat eggs. Add melted chocolate and beaten eggs to the creamed butter and sugar. Mix the dry ingredients into the batter, alternating with the milk. Stir in the nuts. Bake in a 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour.


1/2 cup butter, 2 squares of melted chocolate, 2 cups powdered sugar, pinch of salt, 1 egg, 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1 Tbsp. vanilla, and 1 cup of chopped pecans. Mix and frost. ( You do what you want about that raw egg. My Mama had this recipe for years upon years. It won’t hurt to omit it if you so desire.)
