Ashley Allison is a young woman with a big heart and a deep love for Pawhuska’s children. Ashley came to Pawhuska during the summer of 2011 as a member of the YouthWorks program. During the two and a half months she was in Pawhuska, Ashley was director of ‘Outrageous Sports" activities for children kindergarten through the fifth grade.

"I fell in love with the kids," said Allison. "After meeting their parents, I knew Pawhuska was where I wanted to be. I felt like I belonged here."

Soon, Allison began working for Miss Laura’s Day Care west of town. In January, she honored her parents’ request to return to her hometown in Columbus, Ohio, to continue her college studies at Ohio State where she was majoring in Early Childhood Education.

"After Miss Laura passed away, I felt I should return to Pawhuska and become a role model for these little ones," said Ashley. "Miss Laura was such a great teacher. She was a great mentor. She taught me and her kids about shapes and colors. Most importantly, Miss Laura taught us how to love someone else and how to put the other person first."

Ashley’s Day Care, located at 110 E. 10th, will officially open Monday. Four children are currently enrolled.

"I have space for three more children," said Allison. "I am also accepting gently used children’s toys for the play area."
