"Do You Know Your Club Members?" was the program question of the first Fall meeting of GFWC Heeko Club held Sept. 9, 2013, at the home of Debbie Reed. Surprisingly, members found there were many amazing things they did not know about each other.
Club members wrote secrets about themselves on note cards, and members had to guess which member had written the answer. Hilarious answers included such things as "I shot my brother in the back of the head with a BB and ran to the outhouse and said I didn’t do it!"
"I kissed Elvis in Las Vegas," "I have caught fish in the Panama Canal,’ "I was an FFA princess." "I have been in 19 different countries" and "I once ate three dozen raw oysters at one sitting" were other surprising tidbits members enjoyed learning about each other. Program chairman was Marilyn Maher.
A light lunch was served by the co-hostesses, Joyce Allen, Dean Shoemate and Wanda Jones. Preceding the program, club president Debbie Reed called the meeting to order, and the salute to the flag and Club Pledge were led by Mary Hull. Sherry Williams called the roll and reported 26 members were present, and then gave the secretary’s report.
Berniece Irby gave the treasurer’s report, after which, Joyce Ward announced that the books had been audited and were in great order.
Nicki Lorenzo reported on the Yearbooks. Barbara Strahm reminded members that the Constantine Sassy Awards will be held September 19th at the Constantine Center, and for the 100th anniversary the Center’s bathrooms will be redone. GFWC Heeko members will serve as ushers again this year at the Center,
For the Done in a Day project, soft bags with one set of clothing will be provided for children who have been taken from their homes. Barbara Strahm also said that it is so good for the children to read at the Elementary School first thing in the morning. School opens at 8:10 a.m., and at 8:30 a.m. volunteers, including Heeko member, listen as children read to them. Mentors assist the volunteers their first time or two.
Kathryn Swan reported on progress at the restoration of the OCHS Museum’s restoration.
Pawhuska Hospital will be conducting an assessment survey on what is needed . Jenna Hague reported on Clean Up Pawhuska project, telling that a party was held at the Veterans Memorial, which left empty cups and trash, although there are three trash cans nearby. Geraldine Enyart reported she had written 25 letter to people who have made donations to the Clean Up Pawhuska campaign.
The GFWC NE Oklahoma District Convention will be held September 21, 2013, at Sallisaw, Okla.
